ARGENTINIAN-CHILEAN RELATIONSHIPS IN THE SOUTHERN PART OF THE CONTINENT. 1930-1955

Abstract

The southern area between Argentina and Chile constituted itself historically as an integrated region, where there were weak bonds with both capitals. From the twenties on both nations tried to mold policies originated in each respective national state, at the same time southern regions’ communities started designing strategies to fi nd a practical complement as well as making each capital feel their demands. Our purpose is to inquire the peculiarities of relationships established between Magallanes and Santa Cruz territories during the thirties until Peronism’s fall, starting by analysing the variety of visions that coexisted in that period from the argentinian side. We’ll try to analyse the effects of different policies at play, coming from Defence, Migration and Economics, that promoted transformations in the territory together with the different way of doing things of the actors in the region.
